Our landlords at The Shard are celebrating Christmas with the traditional “Shard Lights” show which returns this year with a message of gratitude to the NHS and key workers and launches on
the evening of Thursday 26th November 2020.
Europe’s highest festive light display will see the spire of the Shard illuminated with a specially coded message of thanks to NHS staff and key workers who have worked selflessly to protect the British public during the coronavirus pandemic. This comes 8 months after The Shard first lit up blue in support of the NHS and these spire lights have remained blue ever since in a consistent show of support.
There will be two different lighting displays over the festive period. The first will be visible for just under a month and will change to a second, more seasonal theme, on 11th December . Each display includes coded messages to the London community and will result in a unique grand finale to welcome in 2021. Beginning at the stroke of midnight and continuing into the early hours of New Year’s Day, hopefully signalling the start of a better year!
Given the height and location of this show, it is estimated the lights, which sit just above our viewing gallery, are the most viewed seasonal display in the UK each year. Made up of 575 LED lights and fixtures across 20-storeys (from 800ft to 1,016ft), many of the 8 million people living across the capital will catch a glimpse of them either from their homes or whilst they are out and about.
Londoners, can you see the #ShardLights from your home? Tag your pictures with the #ShardLights for a chance to be featured on the @shardview Instagram.
